Saturday Sampler 2012

We are amazed to start our 11th year of Saturday Sampler classes! This year we have four different quilts to choose from, something for everyone. The first quilt is a patriotic sampler, the blocks are small, 6" or less. You will need to purchaset the pattern for this quilt and some background fabric. The blocks will be only $4.00 a month!

Of course we must do an applique quilt. This charming fellow will star in our snowman quilt, a winter version, not Christmas. Can't wait to share the rest of the blocks with you. . . . all things snowmanny! $12.00 to begin and 7:00 for the remaining eleven months if you have to miss a class.

We have chosen to do the pieced quilt in two color versions. The first is blues and white (well . . . off whites actually). The first month is $12.00 and then $7:00 if you miss a class.

The photo does not do the justice to the colors in this gorgeous neutral version. They are breathtaking and will go with so many different home dec colors and styles.

We love all the lovely ladies and friends we have made through the years. Some of them enjoying a visit before class begins.

Celebrate Life Quilt

Here are two different color ways for assembling your Celebrate Life quilt. Both are charming. . . one uses green sashing and no topper, the other uses red sashing and a floral topper. Each has a different colored border. Come on in and we'll be happy to help you select your choice of finishing fabrics. Thanks for sharing this project with us . . . it has been a great year!

December Saturday Sampler FUN!

The Friends block and the bird block are the last two units to finish the Celebrate Life quilt. Both represent joyful gifts to all.

Here is the Victorian December block. . .

. . . and here is a sample layout of the quilt with the finishing kit blocks. (This shows only some of the finished blocks.) The first block on the second row is the December pattern. The layout gives you an idea of the fabulous quilt you will have when finished. WE LOVE IT!

Here is another beautiful way to put your blocks together, using the Circle of Nine pattern from the book by that same name. It is gorgeous and using a very simple setting, makes a dramatic looking quilt.

All Dolled Up

Thanks to everyone who came for our "All Dolled Up" evening. We had lots of fun talking about ruffles, quilts, bags and dolls. We just had to share a few photos with you.

September Saturday Sampler

Where does the time go???? We didn't do too well at posting in August, but we're back into the swing of things and here are the photos for the September blocks. The Celebrate Life block is a lovely little basket of flowers.

The watermelon pieced block is made with the most yummy melon colors . . .

and the Victorian Block features soft, romantic pinks and florals. Happy sewing!

Don't forget to set aside some time Sept 15-17 for our Fall Frenzy. On Thursday Sept. 15 we'll host a special event at 6:00 p.m., "All Dolled Up" a fun hour of creative ideas and entertainment. Refreshments will be served and we'll stay open until 9:00 p.m.
From the 15th - 17th all bolted fabric will be 20% off half yard cuts or more. A great time to plan projects and save on fabric. See you soon!

Thanks to everyone who came in during our Christmas in July. We had a grand time at our "schoolhouse" and appreciate your attendance. It was a bit wild with people changing stations, but everyone was very polite and cooperative. Thanks to all who waited in line, it was fun to watch friends visiting and sharing ideas.

We hope you enjoyed all the new samples, fabrics and patterns. If you were not able to make the sale, we still have the samples "hanging around".

We just recieved a new shipment of fabric from Riley Blake, the cutest farm animals and prints you have ever seen. Also, new fall prints from Nancy Halvorsen. Come on in and take a peek!

Hope you received our snail mail newsletter. There was a teeny little typo . . . (error). The Schoolhouse event will be held Thursday, July 14 at 6:00 p.m. It states that in several places in the newsletter, but one place has the date wrong. Be assured it is on the 14th.
We are planning a grand evening, with lots of show and tell about new products, rulers, quilts etc. We hope you will join us for a good time and light refreshements. We look forward to planning these events and hope to see you there.

In the meantime, we are having a bit of a problem posting photos on the blog, hope to have it worked out soon and show you some fun photos of our sale July 14-16.

It's May and we had snow today!!! Lots of wet, wet, wet snow. The trees were gorgeous. If flooding wasn't such an issue we could be thankful as everything is going to be green, green green.

Calling All Quilters

All of you who have made beatiful quilts and shared them with us at Valley Fabric, it's time to share them with others. "Quilting on the Green" is a great local opportunity to learn new skills, earn a little $$$ for showing your quilts, and having a lovely time with other quilters. Please think about entering your quilts. The event takes place at the Expedition Island Pavilion in Green River, Wy. from June 2- June 4, 2011.

Information is available at Valley Fabric Shop, quilts must be registered by May 27, and then you might be on your way to cash prizes, a new sewing machine, and other goodies. IT is a fun weekend and promotes quilting in our area. Spend a little time attending the show, enjoying the vendors, and taking some classes. Please support those who have worked so hard to provide this opportunity.

Following Saturday Sampler we had a grand time celebrating the publication of a Summer Breeze in the April 2011 edition of Quilter's World magazine. We loved designing the quilt and have stitched another color combination since the magazine debuted. Thanks to our lovely quilting friends who joined us to party! We sewed, ate, and had some fun with door prizes. One of life's lovely charms . . . quilting with friends.

We had local quilters, those from out of town, and out of state. We will do this again as it was such fun. Thanks to everyone who participated.

We also showed Nancy Halvorsen's new fabric line today, Jingle All the Way. She just keeps creating gorgeous prints, the tone-on-tone prints are luscious. They are created to coordinate with a Christmas panel, but after looking at them we think they will work for spring, summer, and our watermelon quilt! We have the entire line.

Baby Quilts

If you are in need of a baby quilt. . . we have the cutest! You will love the selection of flannels, and minkees, not to mention many different darling patterns. The teddy bear quilt is soft and warm, the bears are appliqued in minkee. Easy to do. . . we use fusible web.

And these friendly animals will bring a smile to any baby. We started with a panel, added a little fabric, minkee on the back, creating a soft and cuddly cover. We are happy to share lots of ideas. . . come on in!

Western Art

If you are needing a little inside project on these wintery days........how about a little western art. These are small wall hangings, and so dramatic using silhouettes. The technique is simple iron-on applique and a great way to try your hand at machine quilting. Choose from several different designs. In the meantime.........stay warm. It's that time again and we hope you will join us! On Saturday, Jan 11, we will offer another Saturday Sampler class. We offer three class times, 8:00, 9:00, and 10:00 a.m. There is no need to sign up ahead of time, simply choose your favorite time and join the FUN!

Pay the beginning fee and sit through the short class, take your kit home and make the block then return next month with your finished block and receive the next block free. We work hard to make our class interesting, informative and entertaining. You'll learn lots of quilting tips and tricks. . . and enjoy the company of fellow quilters and friends. You can make 12 blocks for $6-10.00 depending on which pattern you choose. This year we will have three different quilts to choose from, make one. . . or make them all!

We look forward to seeing you in class . . . the second Saturday of each month. It's a great way to make a beautiful quilt at little cost and learn new skills in the process. See you there!

Saturday Sampler Quilts

It feels like the end of the semester and these are the test samples! We have had a great time working throughout 2010 on an Apron quilt that celebrates our Grandmother's era. Here is our version of the finished project.

We love the cowboy quilt, we used the same Let's Twist border technique on the Apron quilt . . . ask to see the book and ruler when you are in the store. It is very easy to make and really sets off our blocks. Won't it be a treat to give this quilt to a favorite cowboy!

November Saturday Sampler

Where does the time go???. . . here we are mid-November. They say the older you get, the faster time goes. We must be getting really old!!!!! The pieced blocks for this month are called "cups and saucers". Only one more block to go and we can all finish out quilts!

We have started putting the cowboy blocks together. The November block is the hat at the bottom right of the quilt. In our class we discussed adding the Let's Twist border. . . don't you LOVE it! If you were unable to make it to class, we can give you a little demo and we also have kits available. We are delighted with the results and hope you will be also.

For some reason the Apron Quilt Block didn't transfer. We'll keep trying to get it on the blog. Stay tuned and stay warm.

'Tis the Season

'Tis the Season. . . the fall season that is. . . and don't you just love the Twist and Turn quilt in our fall colors. The technique is simple and so versatile, makes wonderful quilts, runners, borders, and more. The ruler comes in two sizes, and Let's Twist, a new book, shows lots of design ideas. It's our new favorite!

And speaking of seasons. . . our 'Tis the Season Christmas Sale will be Thursday through Saturday, November 11-13. The fabric is flying as we are working on new Christmas quilts, decor, and gift ideas. We are "sew" excited. (Sorry....just couldn't resist!) Jot a note to yourself and remember to join us for the sale. All bolted fabric will be 20% off. . . a great time to purchase backing, minkee, and lots of yummy flannels for winter, not to mention new kits and project ideas. Baby Quilt

Isn't this the cutest quilt. . . the bears are machine appliqued in minkee, which makes them soft and cuddly. Any baby will LOVE the texture and warmth, not to mention the baby's mama! Using Moda's new line, Pure, for the background, the blues and browns are delightful and versatile. If you need a quilt for a special baby, this is simple and just takes a little time. We have kits available.

October Saturday Sampler

It is beautiful October! Hasn't the weather been just gorgeous and the leaves are turning colors, what a great time of year! We hope our sampler blocks for this month will add to your fun. They pieced blocks are easily made, using half square triangle units. Hard to say which color way we like best, the green and purple . . .

. . . or the blue and yellow. They are both delightful!

Our cowboy quilt block this month is a bit of Americana. There isn't a cowboy alive that doesn't love his country. . . so we must have a flag in the quilt.

This block will be a bit of the topper for the apron quilt. It is just like last month's block, only done in different colors. You will love the way these go together. . . stay tuned!

A Great New Technique

This fabulous fall quilt is made using a new ruler and the "twist and turn" method. It is super simple, you begin by stitching 10" squares together, and even add a border. Then using the speciality ruler, cut as directed, stitch, and you have this delightful quilt. We chose deep rich colors for fall, but wouldn't it be great for a baby, or bright colors for a child, or something manly for the guys you love. IT can be made in different sizes. . . very creative!

It Was a Blast!

We had a grand time at our Fall Sale "Stash Matters" event. Thank you all for joining, it was standing room only. We are working on that! We thank all you lovely ladies, especially those traveling, for taking time to share "good things quilty" with us. The above photo is from the trunk show Scrap Basket Surprises. Several fabulous quilts from that book are still on display at Valley Fabric. They are yummy! and the patterns are very versatile.

Sept. Saturday Sampler

Saturday Sampler is here again, this time with frost! With the days becoming cooler, it's nice to have some inside activities.

Isn't this a fun pieced pinwheel. Makes us wish for an entire quilt made of this block.

Our western quilt needs another boot. . . every cowboy has several pair.

The apron quilt has a few pieced blocks, these will be part of the header. It's exciting to watch these quilts come together. Come on in for a peek. We also have lots of new samples and displays as we are getting ready for our Fall Sale, Thursday Sept 16 - Saturday, Sept 18. Look What's New

Is this the cutest guy ever. It is a flip and sew pattern and we'll be offering a class to teach the technique. The orange zipper trim on the edges gives it real teeth (sorry. . . just couldn't resist). It's only one of our many new fall samples. Our Fall Open House will be held Thursday, Sept. 16 - Saturday, Sept 18. It's a great time to get your fabric and sign up for class.

On Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m. we are having a special event, Stash Matters. Join us for an hour of info on managing your stash, storage, planning quilts, new patterns and several trunk shows. It promises to be an hour of informative fun. And. . . we always have great refreshments!!

Santa Claus is here!

Have you ever seen two cuter little Santa's than these guys. They are festive and easy to make, using scrappy squares on an iron-on grid. The kits come with all the embellishments. Make these now so when the Christmas season arrives, you'll be ready. One is a wall hanging. . .

. . . and this guy is made using a cardboard tube, which makes nice storage when you are finished. Delightful!

We are working feverishly to get ready for our Fall Sale, September 16-18. Not only will we have great prices, but on Thursday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 p.m. we will have a demonstration and trunk show on "Stash Matters". We'll be presenting ideas for using and storing your stash...............with some terrific quilt patterns in the mix. Plan on joining us for the fun!

August Blocks

This month's apron block is (maybe) our favorite and that is almost final! We love the ruffles and the decorative stitching that looks like rick-rack. It just doesn't get any more fun than this!

And for our western block, every cowboy needs a saddle and we love the dimension the topstitching adds to ours. Makes us want to climb on a horse and go for a ride on this beautiful summer day.

The pieced sampler blocks are a very traditional design called "Right Hand of Friendship". They would make a lovely one block quilt, vary the colors, scrappy, black and red, batiks. . . no end to the possibilities. We hope you enjoy making this month's designs.

New Halloween Fabric

We have the cutest new Halloween prints, early enough to make costumes and Halloween projects. You will LOVE Happy Haunters, a darling book which among other things, includes a "Stick, Bat, Boo" game...the scary version of tic-tac-toe. Such creativity!! This game has stuffed bats and toads. . . your little spooks will love it! Come in and take a peek at the samples!

These Boots Aren't Made for Walkin'

They may not be made for walking, but they are definitely going to look darling on your baby. They are easy to make and warm to wear. Choose your colors, make them for boys or girls, and everyone will smile!

We simply couldn't resist adding a nice floral touch to this little feminine pair. We have a pattern, it gives easy and quick instructions. A great baby gift and great to personalize. We think they are just darling!

Double Diamonds

The only thing better than a diamond is double diamonds. We love the new Double Diamonds Ruler and what it can "sew" easily make. The table runner is created using Bali Pops. Charla has been using this technique for years to make amazing bookmarks, but the new ruler just made it much easier and faster.

This is a table topper, the possibilities are endless; trim for crafty projects and clothing, quilts, wall hangings, table toppers. Ask for a demo when you are in the store.

June Saturday Sampler

It is Saturday Sampler time again, and we have some very nice blocks to share. The "cowboy" letters are a fun addition to our western quilt.

For Grandma's Apron quilt we love the very vintage style of trim on the apron this month.

Our pieced block is a basket, quite a traditional block actually. Make a delightful quilt using just this block. Oops! forgot to photo the yellow and blue block, it will be coming soon.

New! New! New!

We love this fresh and light look for spring. . . at least the calendar SAYS it should be spring! It was made with a new ruler that makes the most exact triangles from pieced jelly roll strips. The points all come together beautifully and you can do so many things with the blocks. Come on in and see the other samples.

Baby quilts just don't get any cuter than this little guy. Easily made with strips and a bit of applique..........and we have it blues for boys and pinks for girls.

And speaking of babies..........aren't these little shoes delightful? Simple to make. . . and soft for little people to wear...........they are DARLING!

Charla and Bobbi just returned from Quilt Market with a load of new! They are stitching new samples and featuring new goodies at the store. Every time we think we've seen it all, grand new creations pop up! Come on in for a peek.

May Blocks

Can't believe May is here and it's the middle of the month! Here is a peek at our Saturday Sampler blocks. The western block includes a couple of sheriff stars. You can't have a cowboy gathering without a sheriff or two. . . or so they say!

Our pieced blocks are a fun little 9-patch. They look a bit like a snail's trail, with a twist. The colors are very pretty and "spring-like" in each color way.

Grandma's apron is a ruffled little affair......easy to make and we love the dimensional look. Oops! Should have moved the stuff behind the block, we are learning a lot about photography and promise to do better in the future. Always learning......that makes a great life!

Here are the Saturday Sampler blocks for April. The pieced block is "rosebud" and if you are using the finishing kit, here is a sample photo.

Some ladies like to finish using their own choice of designs, so here is a sample of the blocks in each of the color ways. The photos don't do the blocks justice (okay.....so we aren't professional photographers....!) but the blue and yellow is very pretty and so is the purple and green. Hard to choose which we like best.

Our apron quilt is coming along nicely. These reproduction fabrics are such fun to work with.

And.......our western quilt is going to be a real winner. Every cowboy needs a horse and this is a nice silhouette block to add to the western collection. Hope you are enjoying making our quilts! Our New Help!

WE would like to introduce Mabel........our newly hired help. She isn't the most industrious employee we've ever had, but she certainly makes everyone smile. Charla met her in California and convinced her to come to Wyoming. Of course, with summer coming she should be very happy. . . we just hope she'll stay with us through the winter. She is very proper and convinced that white gloves are necessary for her everyday handling of quilts and fabric. You'll want to meet Mable the next time you visit the store. She is quite a gal!

On Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. we are excited to welcome the designers of Pie Plate Patterns, the Bailey mother and daughter team. They will bring a trunk show of their quilts and patterns. March Saturday Sampler

It's that time again, another day of Saturday Sampler fun. We have the NICEST ladies that join us. . . one can't help but enjoy the day. We are always glad when the weather cooperates and our "out-of-towners" are able to make it on good roads.

We enjoyed viewing some of the completed sampler quilts from last year. They are wonderful and of course we forgot to get snapshots of the individual ladies and their quilts. We will try and do that next month and post the photos. Many talented quilters shared their projects. We thank each one!

This is the apron block for March. It is hard to see in the photo, but the pockets are dimensional. We needed a little 1930's red in our quilt, so the accent color does that job.

Our western quilt block is a hat. . . every cowboy has a few!!

This is the pieced block we are featuring this month. And oops. . . .forgot to take a photo of the blue color way, that will be posted ASAP. These Saturdays that are "Sampler Days" are so much fun and such a delight to

visit with so many terrific ladies. . . sometimes it's easy to forgot the job!

Enjoy making your blocks and it isn't too late to join the fun and catch up if you missed the first two months. We are happy to mail blocks also. Happy stitching!

February Saturday Sampler Blocks

Here are the blocks for February. We are loving all of them, for different reasons. Following is the purple and green color way. The block is shown in the center, we decided to put ours together using this pattern. We have kits if you are interested.

Betty, who works at Valley Fabric Shop is assembling her blocks with this pattern. (The 9" block forms the center of this larger 16" unit.) We also have kits for this option. Both ways of putting blocks together will create amazing quilts with secondary patterns. Don't you just love being a quilter?!

And here is our western applique block. This quilt is designed with a specific finished quilt in mind. Unlike the patchwork blocks, this quilt will not requre extra design work by the stitcher. AND. . . it will make any cowboy happy!

We love our apron quilt!!!! This month's block is done in green and yellow reproduction fabrics. You can decorate your block as desired, we used a decorative machine stitch. It would be very nice with a little hand embroidery also.

We also shared a couple of wonderful recipes with our Saturday stitchers. A great raspberry coffee cake reminded us of Grandma's baking and we had to throw in a little chocolate toffee for Valentine's Day. All in all, we had a great day. Hope you will join us next month, and bring your finished quilts from last year's sampler. It is wonderful to see the creativity out there, and appreciate what unique quilts our lovely ladies make.

Here is the first block for the western quilt. There is just something that feels good about a good cowboy boot. Our quilt will feature boots, stars, horseshoes, hats. . . all things cowboy. Yippee and Yee Haw!

Potholders!

Make these delightful potholders in great new patterns and colors. We used fabrics from Authentic and Astor Manor, both from Moda. The patterns are from Cotton Way. Everyone can use a new potholder. . .(not those old things we all have in the drawer!) and what a great gift idea.

We are offering a class for making potholders on Monday, November 30, at 6:00 p.m. These are addicitive and are one of those "old that is new again" patterns. Come to the class and visit while you stitch. We always seem to find some chocolate thrown in there somewhere which just adds to the pleasure.

Great New Bags and Fabric

We LOVE this new bag pattern from Thankfully Sew. It is easy to make, versatile and the name implies it all. . . "IT'S ALL ABOUT ME". What a great way to show someone it is all about them!

And how about a darling little doll carrier that will make someone smile big. Great for a Christmas gift or birthday. Ours is made using the newest Me and My Sister line from Moda.

Another great new bag, the handles are made from leather and ready to attach. The are very pretty, we love the flower petals on the ends.

These new bolts are from Riley Blake , they are toooooooo cute. Perfect for a little cowgirl, or a big one, these will be a hit for clothes, bags and quilts.

Wanna talk turkey? Seems early doesn't it . . . but start stitching now and be ready for the month of Thanksgiving. We love this season of the year, a time to count blessings and remember all the good things of life. The dimensional turkey makes one smile and he is very easy to "stuff". The wall hanging sets the mood for a season of celebrating. We love these smaller quilts and projects that add to the festivities and make a home feel so cozy. We have patterns and kits. All dressed and ready for Halloween! Is this just toooo cute? Diana made an outfit for her American Girl doll, check out the trick-or-treat bag in her hand. The pattern comes from Little Sassy Skirts. . . make one for a special little girl in your life, and for her doll! The black scarf adds a nice finishing touch. Diana is a wonder at doll clothes and anything Dolly. We love it when she shares her talents with us.

We are excited to be offering a class using Eleanor Burn's new pattern, Day & Night. Join us October 24, at 9:00 a.m. for a fun day and learn this very "do-able" technique. It is strip piecing if you can believe that! Eleanor is the queen of simplicity, making it simple to understand and simple to stitch. Lisa, one of our lovely Kemmerer ladies, will teach the class. She also has a little surprise in store for the last hour of the day, so bring a fat quarter in a color you like. Please call ahead and register as space is limited. We usually serve lunch and have a grand time.

I guess we can officially say that fall is here.............everyone is scrambling to get out the warm clothes as it turned cold so quickly. . . like we didn't know it was coming! But we can always hope for a nice long Indian Summer. There are many things to love about this time of year; apples, gorgeous leaves, pumpkins, football, and cozy quilts to warm our hearts and our toes. Now that doesn't sound like anything to complain about!

If you were in attendance at our Fabric Fashion Show this evening. . . we thank you! If you missed out on the fun maybe you can join us next time. It was very entertaining to watch our professsional models (?) who did a great job of showing new bags, aprons, quilts, and lots of the goodies from The Bokay. They jetted into Carter International Airport. . . ahem. . . and gave us quite a show! We are sad because during all the excitement we FORGOT to take pictures. We've been working on new fall projects, oh my......do we have some good stuff! Bobbi is busy changing displays with help from Charla and Christy. Betty, Diana, Anne, and Jan are busy cutting kits, kits, kits and Geralyn is creating new patterns and quilting. Please check with us during the next few days and especially for our Fall Fling next week, Thurs-Sat. We're having a Fabric Fashion Show on Thursday, Sept 17th at 6:00 p.m. that will be more fun than a barrel of monkeys! And besides that ...........food!

A New Beginning

Here we are, a new beginning! Trying to keep up with technology as well as all things "quilting" is a big job. Small steps lead us on great journeys . . . and this is a first new small step for our business. . . becoming a part of the blogging world. We hope you will stay with us as we learn and share our passion for quilting in this "new to us" format.
We are looking forward to our Fall Frenzy Sale, Thursday, September 17-19. On Thursday evening at 6:00 p.m. we are presenting a Fabric Fashion Show.
