February Saturday Sampler

Here we are in the second month of 2013 already!  Despite the snow, many of our out of town friends came today. . . we are always so glad to see all of our Saturday ladies.

Here is our pieced block in the pink/red color way.   OOPS!  I have to fix the triangles. . . amazing what you don't see when you are in a hurry.  Maybe the lesson here is to take a deep breath and SLOW DOWN!!!

The autumn colors . . .

For the Summer Sunshine project, we are doing the watermelon block this month.  And. . . as we promised, we introduced other samples for using the blocks.  We have an adorable watermelon and sunflower table runner, place mats and a dish towel for starters.  You have our permission to shrink the pattern for the dishtowel.

This gorgeous quilt was made by Gale Niemi.  We have the pattern and fabrics available.  It is
dramatic, lovely and springlike.

You will also want to see some of the gorgeous new fabrics arriving, including cottons and new minkee designs.  Hope to see you soon!

Another Year!

We are thrilled to show you our Saturday Sampler quilts for 2013.  We have two color ways for the pieced blocks, fall and red/pink. . . and our quilts include some applique.  You can choose to set your blocks together the way we do, or pick a different design.  If you absolutely don't want to applique, we will offer a pieced block option for every month.

We are excited to share our applique techniques, and will offer classes for those interested in learning both fusible web applique and invisible machine applique.  A nice opportunity to challenge yourself to learn something new!

On our third quilt option , we're doing something a little differently this year, by offering our totally appliqued blocks in a quarterly plan.  We are calling the first quarter project Summer Sunshine.  We'll work four months on a wall hanging and then switch themes for the next four months.  Hopefully that will make it easier to finish projects and each month we will show additional patterns using the applique blocks.  It might be a runner, a wall hanging, a place-mats, etc. but there will be other options for using the blocks.

Here is the fall quilt,

The center project is the Summer Sunshine wall quilt.

Here are a few blocks to give you an idea of the theme for the red/pink color way.  The quilt hanging in the
background is a display only.

Here is the sample of the January pieced block in the fall colors.

The pieced block in the red/pink color way.

The quilts and blocks are on display at the store and we'll be happy to help with any questions.  Finishing kits will be available for all projects.  Just let us know which one you would like!
Stay warm. . . and see you soon!

The party's over . . .

The Saturday Sampler party is over . . . for this year anyway.  We will begin again on the 2nd Saturday in January 2013. (Doesn't that date sound like some kind of science fiction thing!)   The date is Jan. 12th, at 8:00, 9:00, or 10:00 a.m.  You will definitely want to see the fabulous projects we have planned for next year . . . and YES!. . . we finally have a plan! We try with all our creative might to come up with new and original designs that will appeal to everyone.  We are very excited about next year.

Following are the photos of the December blocks.  First of all, the pieced blocks in the neutral colors and the  blue color way.

And the last "Let It Snow" block . . .

Included in your last "Let It Snow" block kit are instructions for assembling the quilt.  We also have finishing kits available with the fabrics we have used.  We love it!

The "Old Glory" quilt for December includes fabric for block #10 and when those are made you will be able to assemble and finish your quilt.  Isn't it fabulous.  It's so nice to have something ready to pull out for a holiday or gift and this is a definite winner for either occasion.

You might also want to see a couple of different options for putting your blocks together.  We have this striking option . . .

And here is the log cabin design which we "kitted" at the beginning of 2012.  Isn't it gorgeous!

We look forward to seeing you in January.  We will have our traditional finished quilt contest for the quilts made in 2012 in April of 2013. The only rule is that you use the block patterns and fabrics we provided.  The setting, finishing fabrics, etc. are up to you! We are giving lots of time to get your quilts done, so reward yourself and join the contest.

12 days of
Christmas

“Twas the month before Christmas,
 And all through the house
Not a thing was left undecorated,
Not even the mouse.

The stockings were hung by the

chimney with care
but my quilting friend’s stocking
still remained bare.

I love my friend dearly and want her
Stocking to be plump
But as I sit and ponder my mind is a frump.

When, what to my wondering eyes
Should appear,

THE 12 MODA DAYS OF CHRISTMAS
Made it perfectly clear!
With gadgets and gizmos and fabrics galore,

Her stocking will be FABULOUS
She’s sure to adore!”

Join us at Valley Fabric Shop . . .
We'll help you count down the days in a jolly good wa
y!

November "Old Glory"

OOPS!  Since this was not posted in October, here is what your completed star section should looke like.  You will add the checkerboard sashing and the half square border on the outside.  One more pieced block next month, a little sashing, and your quilt top will be finished.  Won't it be grand to pull this out for all patriotic holidays!

November Saturday Sampler

They say the older you get, the faster time goes. . . I hate to think how old I am!!!!!  Here it is almost Thanksgiving!  We wish you all a very happy holiday and hope you enjoy gathering with family and friends.

If you are making the "Old Glory " quilt you will complete the star portion of the quilt, including the half square sashing.  Refer to photo under October Saturday Sampler post.

Here is the neutrals block . . .

and the blues . . .

. . . and the "Let It Snow" block.

Here is a sneak peek for those of you making the
"Let It Snow" quilt.  We have kits for the borders and words available now.  In December we'll show the last block applique and finish the applique on the borders.  Final assembly instructions are also available if you want to start your run to the finish line.  Doesn't it make you smile!

September Saturday Sampler Blocks

Here are the September Saturday Sampler blocks beginning with the Let It Snow block.  It's a fun little pail of snowballs, we put Warm and Natural in the kits for the snowballs!  Makes them soft and fuzzy and very touchable!

The pieced blocks require just a light and a dark this month.   The blue color way is navy
 and white . . .

The "neutrals" color way is black and cream . . .

. . . and the stars and strips is Block #4, you will need to make three of them.

Don't forget to sign up for our Stonehenge Event, Saturday, Sept. 29 at 9:00 a.m. or 1:00 p.m.  There are still a few spaces and you will love seeing the fabulous trunk show, winning grand door prizes and learning from one of the best manufacturer's in the business.  See you there!
